WE NEED YOUR HELP TO ACHIEVE VARROA RESISTANCE

 With your help we aim  to produce a genetically diverse base of hygienic queens capable of varroa resistance .   

A successful bee genetics project will give  Australian beekeepers  a head start on selection of Varroa resistant queens, as well as knowledge of the tools and methods required to select and maintain resistant stock. Thus, this project will improve the health of Australian honey bees and reduce the threat of Varroa to Australian pollination and honey bee industries .

By using a combination of new tools, hygienic testing & genetic markers we will initially be testing  if we can  predict and measure a colonies ability to detect and remove unhealthy or varroa infested brood without having an active mite infestation.
